Was not sure if minimally invasive spine surgery would help my problem. Other surgeons said my back was to far gone. Dr. Block listened to were I hurt and said surgery would not help all my back pain but the area that was pinched to bad. He did surgery and I went home the same day. Injured my lumbar spine after an IED incident in Iraq. Had numerous epidurals with the army pain physicians and then the VA once I retired. Dr. Blok was the first physician to review my imaging with me and took time to explain to me what my issue was. He then was able to address my lumbar issues surgically and am grateful I was sent to him in consultation. I have been able to return to running which I could not do since the injury. Today is my one year anniversary of surgery. He performed a decompression that took my back and leg pain away for good. The other doctors at a spine center in Louisville wanted to put rods and screws in my back and said I may be disabled. Thank God I did not follow thru with them. Had one surgery and still had some pain. After the second surgery I had NO pain and returned to work as a diesel mechanic in 4 weeks. I had the misfortune of being treated by several other spine doctors and wish I would of found Dr. Blok before I had a large open surgery. I never got the impression that he wanted to "empty my wallet". He fortunately did not have to perfrom surgery and was able to refer me for a special pain injection. I wish I was one of the people who Dr Blok helped. He told me after being put in the hospital and looking at my MRI that I had a buldge in my disc. Last week I went to another doctor with the same MRI from a year ago and I dont have a buldge, I have a herniated disc. Dr blok just put me on pain meds and sent me on my way. For a year I have suffered thinking my disc was buldging when in reality it needed surgery. At this point, I cant feel my toes, my ankle or my right leg and will probably have severe nerve damage at this point. I am having surgery this month because I finally found a doctor that knows what he is doing.

Dr. Blok did my surgery in Charlestown and was the only surgeon who said they could fix my Lumbar with out a rod so I said go for it. He did it, I went into outpatient and same day I was in Jay C store riding on motorized scooter. I wanted to return to work ASAP but he made me take it easy for at least 6 weeks. He took the lumbar pain away, he was fantastic. Now I need to do my cervical but I have to stop smoking first and get the right insurance. I can now mow grass, go to the zoo with my family, go shoppping with my wife and children, enjoy life without lumbar pain. Next it will be without cervical pain as soon as I am ready I hope he will be ready and willing.

I had a very good experience with Dr Blok. We worked together to avoid surgery, and researched all options. When it became plain that I would need surgery, at that point we agreed. He never pressured me into anything.

I found him to be very kind, compassionate, and helpful.

Comments: I have suffered from spinal lumbar stenosis for about 10 years. I began taking lumbar steroidal injections about 6 years ago, having one every three months to alleviate the lower back and sciatic nerve pain. During this time I was seeing Dr. Blok who for several years advised me to continue the injections for as long as they were beneficial. This past summer of 2023 my stenosis had developed to the point that the injections no longer worked. Dr. Blok suggested that I have a MRI, which I did. We looked at the results together and saw that I had stenosis at three levels of vertebrae, with severe stenosis at the 5th vertebrae. We scheduled decompression surgery for November 6, 2023. He and his assistant, Norman Silva, removed bone spurs and ligaments along with performing a laminectomy of my 3rd, 4th and 5th vertebrae. This procedure opened up the space needed to free my spinal cord. The surgery went very smoothly and I was practically pain free three weeks later. It’s now been seven weeks and I haven’t felt this good in my lower back and legs in years. I am writing this review to recommend Dr. Blok to anyone who needs help with spinal stenosis. He is a very accomplished and experienced surgeon who will not suggest a surgery that is not necessary. If you schedule an appointment with him, you will see for yourself that he is a very considerate person who will be generous with his time for you and he will listen to your input.
